End of life looms for Windows 10

Mar 5, 2025 Tech blog

Microsoft's support of Windows 10 ends in October this year.  To continue to use an unsupported operating system is a security risk for businesses and we strongly recommend against going down this path.  This leaves companies with two options:

  1. Upgrade to Windows 11
Our minimum recommended hardware requirements to run Windows 11 efficiently are 16GB of RAM and Intel 10th gen cpu or higher. If your business is running older machines, or a portfolio of mixed-age devices, it's time to sort out a migration plan of upgrades and replacements to get all hardware up to minimum standards.

Get in touch for support in creating a migration plan. For IT Basecamp contract clients, we already have the tools in place via remote monitoring and management (RMM) software to quickly assess your business’s devices, ages and RAM.

  2. Purchase Extended Security Updates for Windows 10
This option is devised as a stop-gap, not a permanent solution.  Either because you're not prepared for the switchover yet or there's a specific reason why you need to stay on Windows 10 for the time being.  The program provides customers with critical and important security updates for PCs enrolled in the program and running Windows 10, version 22H2.

The cost to participate in the Extended Security Updates program is around USD$61 per device for the first year.  This price is expected to double for the second year, and double again in year 3, effectively encouraging all users to move to Windows 11. It will be available for purchase later this year.
